Klip

Local-first Windows clipboard manager with instant full-text and OCR search across text, images, and files.

Overview

Klip is the clipboard manager Windows should have shipped with: a fast, keyboard-first utility that captures text, images, and files, then makes everything searchable through one popup. Screenshots are OCR'd in the background and indexed alongside ordinary clipboard text using SQLite FTS5. The app runs entirely on-device, supports source-app exclusions before any data touches disk, and includes global shortcuts, tray controls, pinning, undoable deletion, retention settings, corruption recovery, themes, onboarding, and review-first signed updates. Built as a native Windows desktop application with a Rust/Tauri core and a React/TypeScript interface.

What it does

  • Native Win32 clipboard listener captures text, files, and images in the background

  • Windows OCR makes text inside screenshots searchable without sending data to a server

  • SQLite FTS5 provides one unified index across clipboard text and OCR results

  • Privacy exclusions drop matching clips before any database or image write

  • Keyboard-first popup with global shortcut, quick paste, pinning, and undoable deletion

  • Bounded background OCR worker with restart-safe backfill and oversized-image protection

  • Database migrations, retention pruning, corruption recovery, restrictive CSP, and scoped Tauri capabilities

  • System tray controls, single-instance behavior, personalization, and review-first signed updates
